A thigh lift is an operation performed to remove excess skin and fat from the inner thigh. Aging changes and dramatic weight loss often cause loose skin to collect in the inner thigh area, altering shape and contour of the lower body. To tighten and redrape the sagging skin, Dr. Braithwaite makes incisions of varying length, depending on the extent of redundant skin. Typical incisions are located along the groin crease and sometimes extend down towards the knee. Liposuction is often added to remove excess fat and improve the final shape. Redundant skin at the outer thigh is normally addressed with a lower body lift. Dr. Braithwaite performs thigh lift surgery under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. We instruct thigh lift patients to wear a compression garment for several weeks. Light exercise is encouraged soon after surgery but strenuous activity is limited for at least several weeks. Patients may drive and return to work once they discontinue narcotic pain medicine.
