Botox® Cosmetic

Botox® Cosmetic is the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, an FDA-approved protein that reduces muscle activity and dynamic skin wrinkling.  These office-based injections temporarily reduce or eliminate vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead creases, crow’s feet near the outer eyes, visible bands in the neck, and other less common facial concerns.  Botox® can also be used to treat migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and certain muscle spasm conditions.  Expert use of Botox® requires an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy, muscle activity, and the product itself.  In our office, Dr. Braithwaite freshly mixes all the Botox® himself and only he injects the product.  We have yet to encounter a less than satisfied Botox® patient in our practice.

To determine if you are a good candidate for Botox®, you will meet with Dr. Braithwaite during your consultation.  After understanding your goals and desires, Dr. Braithwaite will carefully examine your facial regions.  He will devise an individualized treatment plan and explain it to you.  If you elect to proceed with treatment, Dr. Braithwaite injects Botox® with a very small needle.  We offer topical anesthetic cream to minimize any discomfort during the injections.  Bruising is rare.  The full effects of Botox® can take up to 2 weeks to set in and the benefits should last at least 3 to 4 months.  We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise just after treatment but patients may drive and return to work immediately.
